Our Candles

Our individually hand-poured 100% pure beeswax candles with hand-placed all-cotton wicks naturally have a sweet smell and golden color. Beeswax candles are long burning – our votives burn for at least 16-18 hours and our tealights for over 4! When you burn 100% pure beeswax candles, they actually clean the air!
Paraffin, on the other hand, comes from the sludge at the bottom of the barrel of crude oil. Paraffin is extracted after asphalt in petroleum refining. The American Lung Association has issued a warning against breathing the eleven documented toxins (two of which are carcinogenic) that are released, along with soot, when a paraffin candle burns.

For the health of you and your family start now to experience the wonderful qualities of beeswax candles!

Burning Tips

Votive candles liquefy while burning and therefore should always be used in an appropriately-sized container, one in which the votive fits tightly.  For maximum safety, place the container on a heat-resistant level surface, such as a lantern, larger holder or plate.

To be able to easily clean and reuse a votive holder, put approximately 1/4 of a teaspoon of water in the bottom before adding the candle. (Avoid putting more than that so as to not drown the wick.) If the candle is not allowed to burn completely, whatever is remaining will easily pop out after it hardens. If the candle is consumed entirely, simply remove the metal clip before putting another candle (and water) in the holder. Never use a microwave to remove candle wax because of the metal clip.

When necessary, trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting.

A properly burning wick will bend and be self-trimming. Keep in mind that this can cause the candle to temporarily burn faster on the side towards which the wick bends. One should occasionally "tend their candle", and if desired the wick can be gently pushed towards the more solid side using a non-flammable object. In the proper container, and with slight tending, the candle will in time completely clean the sides. Since we have intentionally chosen a very slow burning wick, our votives burn for at least 16 hours.

Tealights should be burned in the little containers in which they are poured. In the rare case that the wick tab has slid off-center, re-center it using a non-flammable item while the wax is liquid. Our tealights burn for approximately 4 hours each.
All container candles should be allowed to burn until the wax pool reaches the outside rim each time. By blowing the candle out too early, you limit the wax pool to that diameter and shorten the life of the candle. A votive candle takes approximately 4 hours to pool completely.

Pillars should be burned on a plate or pillar holder, not in a tight-fitting container.  They should be allowed to melt to the outer edges; which may take up to several hours per inch.   The sides will form a beautiful amber cup to hold the flame, and in time should be gently molded in with dampened fingers, after the wick is extinguished, and while the wax is still warm.

When extinguishing candles, it is cleaner and safer to snuff them out, rather than to blow them out. Hold the snuffer over the flame for enough time to eliminate afterglow. This also preserves the wick and lengthens the burn time of the candle.
It is natural for 100% pure beeswax to develop “bloom” over time. The white bloom is due to the natural oils rising to the candle surface. (Only real beeswax blooms and only real honey crystallizes.)  This in no way affects the quality of the candle. Actually, many people appreciate this aspect and intentionally let their candles “age.” However, if you prefer to restore the original pure golden color, simply rub the candle in your hands or with a dry cloth.
